Aster Advisory was born out of our strong desire to provide our clients with best practice and truly independent advice. In light of concerns around independence facing public sector advisory businesses we, together with Pitcher Partners, asked a simple question. Is there a better way to support our clients?
Through listening to our clients and the industry, we believed that a change was needed. That change must ensure our integrity and our clients’ trust remained paramount. This is how Aster Advisory was born. We made a strategic and proactive decision to create an independent firm of advisors with a focus on providing specialised risk management and procurement services.
As Aster Advisory we are excited to bring the same experienced team, with over 20 years’ experience, and our valued and long-standing relationships into a new era that brings an even greater capacity to meet our clients’ needs and exceed their expectations. While independent, we are connected to and continue to be part of the Pitcher Partner's Melbourne Network, allowing us to continue to draw on the expertise of our peers to support our clients, when needed.
Our specialised team started in 2005 as a service offering within Pitcher Partners, a leading Australian Accounting, Audit and Tax advisory firm.
Over the years, through strong client service and value delivery, we grew to a team of 35 specialists.
Twenty years later, in July 2024, driven by a mutual decision and strong support from within Pitcher Partners, a new independent firm, Aster Advisory was formed with our entire team, 20 years of operational experience, all specialist skills, capabilities, methodologies and all clients transitioning to Aster Advisory.
This decision was a result of a mutual desire to enable the continued provision of meaningful levels of independence with broad access, to all specialised skill and capabilities offered by both firms.
A smooth and seamless transition has given rise to a vibrant contemporary specialist firm located in the Melbourne CBD, offering specialised skills and capabilities in our target service areas of Risk Management, Internal Audit, Technology Risk, Probity and Procurement Advisory services. We closely collaborate with Pitcher Partners to the benefit our mutual clients.
As we embarked on our journey, we knew that the name, while only a name, was important for us. We were looking for something fresh, something new. A name that our whole team and our clients could get behind. As a team, we brainstormed ideas for days and weeks. Olivia, one of our team, suggested Aster: a flower symbolising wisdom, love, and faith.
The word ‘Aster’ is rooted in a tale from Greek mythology. The story tells of a goddess who looked to the stars for guidance, wisdom, and love. One night, when the stars were absent, she wept. As her tears touched the ground, they transformed into beautiful aster flowers, embodying a sense of renewal, resilience, and new beginnings.
This narrative resonates with our purpose. It represents our commitment to caring for those that we work with and guiding them to attain both their organisational outcomes and to have a positive impact on our communities. It motivates us to continually renew and evolve our approach. To stay at the forefront of our industry.
